A mobile phone is something that we cannot live without. Like the air, we breathe and the food we eat a mobile phone has become a need in our daily lifestyle.  The mobile phone industry is one of the most income-earning industries in the world. Almost every human being in every corner owns a mobile phone. At present more than five billion people own a mobile phone and out of this half of the people have smartphones.

I had my first experience with a mobile phone when I was 18 years and then again it was a regular mobile phone that has a keypad. The snake game in these phones was viral in those days. Eventually, smartphones came into play, and nowadays even the kids at age 6 years are thorough in using smartphones.

We all know about the world-famous apple iPhone and even about the founder of Apple. Yes, Steve Jobs is one of the inspirational entrepreneurs in the business world. So in this article, we are going to talk to you about behind scenes mastermind of Huawei.

Huwawi watch & phone

This world-famous smartphone brand was invented by Ren Zhengfei who is a Chinese citizen. He is an engineer and became a very successful businessman after establishing the Huawei Company. Ren was born on 25th October 1944 in Zhenning, Guizhou, Republic of China one of the most commercialized cities in China. He was born in a normal family where his father was an accounts clerk and his mother was a senior teacher. He is the eldest among five sisters and a younger brother.

Once he completed his secondary school, he entered to Chongqing Institute of Construction Engineering to major his engineering degree in Civil Engineering and Architecture. After completing the program he worked as a civil engineer until 1974 and later on he joined with People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and he got the opportunity to work on a project that involved in building a chemical fiber factory in the north-east of China. While he was working he was promoted as the deputy director in a construction research institute for his excellent work. He was mainly involved in electronics and communication research & development.

For his outstanding performances in his career, Ren was invited to the National Science Conference in 1978 and the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 1982. But later on, he retired from PLA in 1983 because the Government suddenly decided to withdraw the Engineering Unit. After leaving the army, he joined an oil corporation based in the Shenzhen South Sea. He was not happy to work in the logistics field so left that too.

Then he started focusing on an entirely different field. In 1987, he focused on adding something to the fast-developing private phone market. So he established Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd in Shenzhen in 1987 with 21,000 Yuan. Initially, they started the business by becoming a contractor. Huawei got together with a Hong Kong importer and they started to install, repair, maintain, and resell digital switch exchanges that are famous and are massively produced in China.

But Ron always desired to own his technology and to manufacture his own products. Ren is Lucky, gifted with a passion for retro engineering. And this is what Huawei specialized in… Huawei separates the currently available product and then produce it at a cheaper price. Simply they are following the best-cost strategy.

1992 was an extraordinary year for Huawei. They developed C&C8 switches and sold them and the lowest possible price beating the competitors. And it eventually led Huawei to develop some important deals with public sector organizations. Since then, Huawei becomes one of the biggest players in the telecommunication field. Currently, Huawei manufactures routers, 4G network devices, and broadband devices in addition to smartphones. They are the first movers to introduce a 5G network to the world. Huawei invests 10% out of the annual income on its research and development.

They still follow the same unique working style implemented by Ren. The engineers make most of their decisions. Three executives operate all daily tasks. Each one gets six months to work as the CEO of the company. Ren developed this idea based on the migration style of birds. Usually, they fly across countries in the shape of the letter V and the bird at the peak point has the biggest responsibility in the fleet. This way the organization can avoid bad politics, as well as the leaders, get the avenue to show their talents and skills that will pull Huawei to further success.

Today Huawei is the biggest telecommunication supplier and provides 188,000 job opportunities that live in 170 countries and holds more than 10,000 patents and planning to implement more new technologies and devices in the future.

Ren Zhengfei received many awards throughout. In 2013, he won the Management Excellence Award. Also Africa’s Digital Inclusion Medal of Honor. Moreover, Huawei has won many awards and recently the organization has won 8 awards in Interop Tokyo 2020 for innovative products and solutions.

Ren has married twice and has three children.  Meng Wanzhou, one of the daughters is the current CFO in Huawei Technologies. 48 years old Meng is also a businesswoman and permanently lives in Canada. The other daughter Annabel Yao, who is 22 years old has decided to go on a different pathway. She is currently studying computer science at Harvard University but she is also a ballerina. She has stated that as much as she enjoys coding she has a passion for fashion, PR, and entertainment.

Currently, the Chinese entrepreneur’s net worth is USD 1.4 billion. He is a man who started from scratch. He stated “nobody can develop a thick skin without scars” which explains even though he owns one of the most income-generating companies, he believes that nothing can be taken for granted and everything comes with hard-working.
