January is a month that comes up with piles of plans. On December 31st we all plan on what to do in the brand new year. Not to reverse the things that we did wrong but to make sure that we correct them and not to continue further. It is a month in which we make life affirmative decisions. Especially in our career, personal life and education pathway… And this is why the EDEX Expo Exhibition is held at the beginning of the year…
If you are a Sri Lankan you are familiar with what I am talking about. Because the EDEX Expo Exhibition is famous on the whole island… It is one of the largest educational exhibitions that take place in Sri Lanka. Simply it is an educational hub where more than two hundred universities and educational institutes will participate from more than twenty countries.
How did the EDEX Expo start?
The first-ever EDEX Expo Exhibition happened in Two Thousand Four. The main organizers of this event are the Royal College Union and Royal College OBA. The Sri Lankan Government also supports this massive event. The first exhibition was held at BMICH https://www.bmich.com/.
The Developing stages in EDEX Expo Exhibition
In Two Thousand Seven, they started to hold the exhibition in Kandy. They say that this event provides so many ample education opportunities to the students. Thus they wanted to enhance the value that they give through the EDEX Expo Exhibition. Therefore, the organizing committee decided to implement a Career and a Web portal where students and interested parties can gather more information.
EDEX Sithuwam
Different events got added to this event. In Two Thousand Eight, they added the “EDEX Sithuwam” where talented young artists can show their true colours to the world. Once they identify the students with real talents, they conduct workshops that will support to enhance their skills.
EDEX Green Zone
In Two Thousand Nine, they implemented the EDEX Think Green concept. It is also one of the parts of the EDEX Expo which provide sound knowledge to the young generation on how to minimize the con impacts on ecological footprint. They have a separate area called EDEX Green Zone where they educate the visitors on how to change their attitudes and behaviours that will support to keep the ecosystem safe.
EDEX Magazine
In Two Thousand Ten, they launched the EDEX Magazine. This magazine contains different types of interviews of Sri Lanka’s famous business personnel. Also, it provides information about how to sustain your career pathway by selecting the proper educational institutions and companies that offer jobs for a particular passion.
EDEX Nanapahana
EDEX Nanapahana is a concept that came to the play in Two Thousand Twelve. This is a charity program that supports schools in rural areas with poor facilities. The EDEX committee provides different types of donations such as computers. And also help them to enhance their facilities such as libraries and computer laboratories.
The Exhibition series
Two thousand Twelve is also the year where the companies in the IT industry and Business Process Outsourcing industry’s companies attend the EDEX Expo Exhibition. This was the first time where the visitors can participate in walk-in interviews and get job opportunities in these top-class companies.
EDEX Mid-Year Expo
Then they initiated the EDEX Mid-Year Expo in Two Thousand Thirteen. This exhibition’s main goal is to enlighten the Advance Level students about the available study opportunities once they finish their Advanced Level examinations.
The year Two Thousand Fourteen was significant in the EDEX Expo Exhibition series. The International Labour Organization located in Colombo agreed to combine with the Exhibition series. Celebrating successive ten years the committee launched the EDEX Job Fair series in the same year. This boosted the value of the EDEX Expo Exhibition since it was an integration of both studies and career pathways. It provided the young students to choose the correct career pathway and the education pathway that shapes up the career pathway at the same time.
Current situation of EDEX Expo Exhibition
Currently, EDEX Expo Exhibition is held in three main locations. The main exhibitions are held in Colombo and Kandy. And the Mid-Year exhibition takes place in Galle. More than sixty thousand visitors visit this gigantic event. It is an exposure that creates unique and timely educational and career opportunities. At present, the Exhibition also caters to financial institutions such as banks where students can obtain student loans and even travel and ticketing facilities. Plus you get to enjoy some amazing discounts from different organizations.
The organizing committee of the Exhibition was planning to hold the exhibition for the seventeenth time. But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they had to cancel the event adhering to the new rules and regulations imposed by the Government.
The platinum educational sponsor of the Exhibition was the Sri Lanka Technological Campus (SLTC) and the main career sponsor was Uniliver Sri Lanka. The general electronic media partner is MTV and print media partners are Sunday Times and Education Times.
The EDEX Expo Committee members are looking forward to organizing the exhibition for the year 2021 as well. And they look forward to striving to achieve their mission ‘to empower Sri Lanka youth to be globally competitive and provide all the necessary aid with the young generation to achieve it
