What is your hobby? Is a general and very common question that anyone would ask. When you are facing an interview the interviewer will ask this question and even this question can come up on your first date. It is not just merely a question. Your hobby can say many things about you. In a way, it describes your personality. This is a common question that interviewers raise to check whether the interviewee is suitable for the job position that they are looking for.
Personalities
We all have different personalities. Your friend can be different from you, but he can be the first person that you eagerly look for when you want to talk about something that you are being worried for hours. He/she can be very shy, but a great listener because these qualities are based on their personalities and the researchers have identified 16 different such personalities.
These sixteen personalities have been clustered into four groups as analysts, diplomats, sentinels, and explorers. The group and your personality are based on some simple characteristics. These characteristics are as follows.
Extrovert or Introvert – This has been based on the way you interact with society. If you love to party and hang out with big crowds enjoying live events, then you have an extroversive character. Because an introvert character always prefers alone times and they are not very friendly type folks.
Intuitive or Sensing – Some are there who will make decisions based on gut feelings. They are intuitive characters. They are always good at guessing and they are correct most of the time. But there is this other kind who need to have the facts and figures so that they can make the best choices because they sense spirits.
Thinking or Feeling – A person with the feeling of quality will always think ‘If I do this, what will happen to others?’. A character with this thinking trait will always put logic and rationales forward when making decisions.
Judgment or Perception – Do you row your boat gently down the street? And are you a happy-go-easy person? Because then you are so perceptive. But if you need to plan your entire future, then you are a very judgmental character.
Studies have found that they can read a person’s personality depending on an individual’s hobby. Here are some general findings.
There are four main categories that are clustered. Some of the common qualities are as follows,
ANALYSTS –
Logicians (INTP), Commander (ENTJ), Architect (INTJ) and Debater (ENTP) are the personality types that belong to this cluster. They go with their instincts and, they are very emotional when it comes to decision making.
Architects: A person who falls into the Architect segment show very timid figures. They are very inward characters and they are full of imagination. They are very confident about their life. Even though they are inquisitive they can concentrate very well on things. They prefer board games such as chess, or even writing articles or blogs. They even can write spy novels and become famous.
Logicians: are more into thinking and making sensible choices. They have a hidden talent in reading and understanding people. Furthermore, they have creative hands. Such people prefer hobbies like solving puzzles and making handicrafts or even painting or pottery.
Commanders: are very extroversive people who have an outbound personality. They don’t quit things very easily. They can turn new constraints or a challenge into a carnival and love when things challenge them. This type of person will definitely prefer video games or sports as their hobbies.
Debaters: The last type in analysts is debaters who are full of liveliness. They are eager to go find new things. And are great at making a change in the world. They are good at digging information and even arguing about ideas and theories. Such a person can be identified from hobbies such as geocaching, traveling even blogging.
DIPLOMATS –
The fundamental traits of this group are intuitive and feeling. The types that come under this cluster are advocates (INFJ), mediator (INFP), the protagonist (ENFJ), and campaigner (ENFP).
Advocates (INFJ): If you see a character that never gets tired of coming up with new creative ideas, then he can be an advocate for sure. These types of people have a very big heart and are very rare. They always want to help other people and will be remembered even when they leave the world. The common hobbies that can be seen among INFJs are oil painting, hiking, making handmade cards for special occasions such as birthdays, and even archery.
Mediator (INFP): A person who is very innocent and helpful are falling under the mediator category. They live by their principles. They are also great listeners and are committed, hard workers. This type of person chooses hobbies such as gardening, composing music even having an aquarium.
Protagonist (ENFJ): Most of the world-famous leaders are protagonists. They are born with leadership skills and have the ability to guide others to develop their skills. They are also people with a strong belief system. Sometimes they can be typical and traditional as well. They tend to do ironwork, martial arts, and even paintball as their hobbies.
Campaigner (ENFP): Have you ever met a person who can turn a boring party into a fiesta? These types of people are known as campaigners. They are independent, creative free-spirited personalities. SENTINALS –
Personalities with sensing and judgment, traits are known as Sentinels. Logistician (ISTJ), Defender (ISFJ), Executive (ESTJ), and consul (ESFJ) are the types that come under sentinels.
Logistician (ISTJ): Nearly 13% of the population are logisticians. They are very responsible and kind of rigid characters. These types of people can be named as masters when it comes to responsibilities and duties. Also, they can lose their temper very easily if a person does not take the deadlines seriously. Sometimes they can be very tough and arrogantly needs to maintain stability and efficiency in life. Collecting coins, bitcoin mining, playing poker are some of the common hobbies among ISTJs.
Defender (ISFJ): If a person who agrees with almost everything you say he or she has a defender personality. Most of the time their decisions are made based on facts. When they bond with a person they bond with them intimately and deeply. People who have an ISFJ personality type desire crocheting, camping, doing puzzles, and even making origami arts as their hobbies.
Executive (ESTJ): People with an executive personality are the greatest advisers. They hate when people dishonor or act lazy. They strongly believe that working according to the rules help society to become a better place. When it comes to teamwork they play the role of a loyal member. Consul (ESFJ): Consuls are the type that steals the spotlights. The people who you can talk about the latest trending dresses for hours, but not about science or politics. Cheerleaders show most of these personalities. If there is a party or a social gathering then these people are the ones who will never miss it for the world. ESFJs characteristics are signified by hobbies such as pottery, doing yoga, exploring hidden cities.
EXPLORERS –
Sensing and perceptiveness is the major two traits that can be seen among explores. The personality types that come under this group is Virtuoso (ISTP), Adventurer (ISFP), Entrepreneur (ESTP) and Entertainer (ESFP)
Virtuoso (ISTP): Virtuoso or the ISTP personality type is the type that can be seen in inventories. They prefer to find new things by touching and seeing from their own eyes. They are risk lovers and enjoy the current moments. Hobbies such as board games, dominos, surfing through volcanoes, making soap art, and even playing with drones have been preferred by them.
Adventurer (ISFP): The adventurer is another personality type that has a perceptive mind. These souls are enriched with an artistic mindset.
