But this is not about it… In this article, we are going to talk about Edinburgh Napier University which is a public and one of the oldest universities in Scotland.

The history of the university runs back to Fifteen Fifty. The world-famous inventor John Napier. He was born in Murchison castle’s tower house. This tower is also known as Murchison tower. And there were orders to demolish the tower. But in nineteen fifty-seven, a different call was made. And it became the first building of Napier Technical College. On twenty third of February Nineteen Sixty five, the school was ready to welcome children. The first-ever courses offered at the college were boat building, cabinet making chemistry and engineering.

Then in Nineteen sixty-six college got a new name as Napier College of Science and Technology. In nineteen seventy-four, the technical college and Edinburgh college of commerce got connected and created Napier College of Commerce & Technology.

In Nineteen Eighty-six, it became Napier Polytechnic. And also acquired the hydropathic building located in Craiglockhart. In Nineteen Ninety-Two, the college became a university named Napier University. And in Two Thousand Nine, the name Edinburgh Napier University became official.

Today it has nearly twenty thousand students studying at three main campuses.

Craiglockhart Campus

Craiglockhart Campus

This venue is one of the oldest venues on the premises. It is the main building of the business school. Earlier it was the Craiglockhart Hydropathic Hospital. It has a breathtaking view of Edinburgh. And it contains lecture theatres with two hundred to four hundred seats. Moreover, there are multimedia and language laboratories. It has an innovation and enterprise centre as well. The place is also famous for the annual exhibition of the poets and the hospital staff and patients.

Merchiston Campus

This is also the house of the famous John Napier. It has facilities such as a computing centre with five hundred seats, state of the art music studios, newsrooms, computer games laboratories, TV and radio studios, business incubator and VBase volunteering centre. This premises also caters for art and creative industries, computing and engineering and built environment-related programs.




Sighthill Campus

This is the premise for applied science and health and social care. The premises have facilities such as Biotechnology laboratories, sports & exercise science laboratories, clinical health centre which has mock hospital wards and high dependency unit, learning resource centre contains cafes, library and its facilities, gym and a sports hall.

ENGAGE

It is the sports facility in Edinburgh Napier. It contains a gym, sports hall and fitness classes that anyone can attend. The brand new equipment gives a fresh and amazing experience. You can attend classes such as Yoga, Pilates, group cycle and body pump. The fitness suite is 200m² and has equipment such as cardio machines, Olympic weightlifting platforms as well as treadmills.

The sports hall enables us to play sports such as badminton, table tennis, football, basketball and volleyball.

Screen Academy Scotland

This is a facility for the young and upcoming actors, actresses and singers. Simply an ample opportunity to the ones who like to be on the silver screen. This is a collaborative facility. The university has partnered with Edinburgh College of Art. It includes facilities such as screening rooms, pro tool suits, Avid Media Composer suites, dubbing suites and modern advanced equipment.

The university also has collections such as the war poets’ collection, Jim Haynes living archive, Edward Clerk collection, Scottish centre of Tagore studies and John Napier of Merchiston.
