“The Kingswood college is equipped with numerous clubs and societies which develop and strengthen the ethics and discipline of our gentlemen. Created by the pioneers of the school, they still guide our gentlemen with guidance and support throughout their journey.”
Buddhist Society
The Buddhist society was created to enhance and develop the discipline and character among the Buddhist gentlemen of the college. Also, to create a gentleman who will respect human values and its culture. Every day, the “Buddha Pooja” is organized by society. Apart from that, the annual “Pindapatha Programme” is the grandest event in society. It includes Dansal Programme, Vesak and Poson programme and health camps. Society keeps our gentlemen enlightened and disciplined ever since its inception.
Christian Movement
Kingswood is a place where all religions gather. Therefore, it is filled with multi-religious societies and clubs such as the Christian movement. Developed to uplift the mental wellbeing of our Christian gentlemen, it organizes many colourful events throughout the years. Such as ash Wednesday, the Sunday service and Christmas celebrations. Society works closely with the Methodist church to keep the acquaintance going.
Islam Majlis
On behalf of the Islamic gentlemen of Kingswood, Islamic society was initiated in 1998. As a multi-religious college, it was a much-needed item. Since its inception, the Islam Majlis has been organizing various events regarding religious and multi-cultural understanding over past years. One such example is organizing a Vesak Dansal collaborating with the Buddhist society. It was a perfect example of harmony and understanding between different cultures. They also organize an annual debating competition in the English language to enhance the logical thinking of the gentlemen. Society works in harmony with the college while spreading the message of peace everywhere.
The Sinhala literary Association
Sinhala literary association brings out the artistic skills of our gentlemen. It plays a main role in uplifting the writing, speaking and listening abilities of the Kingswoodians. It organizes many writing, speaking and literary events at provincial and zonal levels. Society works closely with YMBA and other literary associations in the country making it a largely beneficial and active club in the school.
Sinhala Debating Team
The Sinhala debating team is one of the most outstanding teams in the college. It has won numerous awards and accolades for its par-excellence performance by our debaters. They have beat leading schools in the country making the college the best debating school in the modern era. Our college’s gentlemen have won the provincial debating tournament in record times. It enriches the knowledge, speaking and logical thinking of our gentlemen.
Drug Prevention unit
This unique society contributes to the mental well-being of our gentlemen. Created with the guidance of the Mental health bureau of the Kandy hospital, it was an idea of a past pupil of our school. The main objective of the drug prevention unit is to convey the message of the negative effects of drugs and the damage they cause to humans. They organize poster campaigns, meetings and many more events against the use of drugs. The service of the club has benefited many gentlemen and it continues to act as a valuable asset in the school.
Counselling and psychology unit
To enhance our gentlemen with the rich mentality and high spirits in their academic years. Developed with the generous support of our old gentlemen and British Council Kandy. They carry different kinds of assemblies and events regarding mental health and spiritual lifestyle. They encourage the gentlemen to read books and listen to music in their free time to uplift their mental well-being. There are teachers and doctors in our school who are in charge of the unit and they gladly offer their assistance whenever they have to.
The unit plays the main role in uplifting the gentlemen’s mentality when nearing school and higher exams. Also, gentlemen are given knowledge of prevailing social issues and how to act in those. The counselling and psychology unit opens the door for developing humanitarian qualities of gentlemen and helping one another with a positive attitude.
Science society
The science society not only supports the academic improvement of the gentlemen but also enhance the practical knowledge of studying science. The annual science day paves the way to interact with industry experts and share knowledge with them. They also run a quiz competition with the participation of nearby schools.
The Photographic club
One of the most active clubs in the Kingswood backyard, the photographic club is involved in every event which is hosted by the school. Every year they host the “Photographic Day”, which is a colourful and Blizz event to showcase the photographic skills of the gentlemen. Also, they organize an exhibition named ‘Fill Flash” to create an opportunity for budding photographers of Kingswood to unleash their talents.
Many gentlemen of Kingswood have won numerous awards and accolades for their stunning shots which are highly appreciated by professional photographers in the country. They continue to play a major role in covering many extravagant events in the Kingswood calendar in years to come.
Interact club
The interact club hosts and organizes several social and charitable events throughout the year, making it a highly active club in the school. They organize blood donation camps, welfare distribution camps and guidance camps with the participation of our gentlemen. A signature event of the interact club is the “Attire Fashion Show” which is a fashion show hosted with the help of Commerce water bottle distributors. The club works hand to hand with the Sri Lanka Rotary club to get their knowledge and experience of them.
Media Unit
The Media unit uplifts the skills of Public speaking and provide training on various media materials such as radio, Tv and the newspaper. With the involvement of the club, the college has a radio named “Radio Kingswood” and a TV channel called “TV Kingswood.” They are the perfect platform to showcase and unleash the talents of the Kingswoodians to a wider audience. Moreover, the club hosts various events with popular media personalities to enhance their knowledge regarding the media sector.
Young Explore’s club
The young explorer’s club is a sister club of the scout’s association. Collaborating with them, the club organizes many environmental and hiking events throughout the year. Their signature event is “Eye for nature”. This event is a hiking festival in which participants from other schools are also welcomed. In addition, they contribute towards the environment in the college and preserve its natural beauty.
