A well-experienced panel of teachers and a well-resourced environment that prevails at the school pave the way to perform better in all the academic activities every year.

Achievements of the past century

Firstly, in the year 1969 after the Advanced Level classes were introduced 4 Arts students from our school got selected to the university. They are, Ms.M.S. S Fawziya, Ms.M.A. S Nazeera, and Ms. Fawzun Nayeema. It was the first academic achievement made in the history of the school. Thereafter, in the year 1995, a girl named Ms.M.H. N Nazmiya got entrance to the medical faculty for the first time. The next year Mr. Nuzair got selected to the medical faculty while Mr.M.M.M Mahfar got entrance to the Engineering faculty. In the same year, 3 other students got the opportunity to follow physical science courses,2 students for unani medicine and, 2 others for NDT course offered by the Morrotuwa University of Sri Lanka.

The year 1994 was the first year in which the highest percentage of students got passed in the year 5 scholarship examinations. Out of 28 students who sat for the exam,8 students succeeded in scoring high marks.

Accomplishments of the early 21st century

The bilingual classes were started in the year 2003, and in the first attempt itself, a girl named M.R Azeeza secured 10A passes for the Ordinary Level examinations. In 2007, first time in Al-Azhar history the highest number of students got passed the year 5 scholarship examinations. It is a pride for me that I am one of them and has performed something to make a memorable record in the history of our mother Azhar.

In 2010,84% of students passed   Ordinary level examinations and in 2012, our school was ranked as the first in the Mawanella zone. The Advanced Level results of the students have taken a sudden increase in the same year and have reached up to a percentage of 93%. The year 2013, was another remarkable year in the history of mother Azhar as 07 students have passed the Ordinary Level Examinations with 9A passes. That was an eminent performance in the history of the school. Mr.M.A.M Nisthar who was the principal during that period is solely responsible for all these achievements. His continuous effort to make the school one of the best in the zone is the only reason for all these successes.

The “Pradeepa Prabha” award, which is given for excellent teachers all over the island was awarded to four teachers including the principal Mr.M.A.M Nisthar. Moreover, in 2010, in an ICT competition, the school won the National ICT Excellent Award for securing first place in the Province and fifth place at the National level. And for this, the school was provided with technological equipment worth nearly 2.3 million.
